Sean FitzSimons was introduced to the mountains as a toddler when his parents Mike and Jennifer strapped skis on him before he turned two. Growing up with his older brother, Tucker, FitzSimons spent countless days at Mt. Hood Meadows and Timberline, where the family would ride from open to close in all weather conditions. His path to snowboarding began at age 5 when he discovered skateboarding, which became his primary passion and essentially served as his daycare. At age 8, FitzSimons transitioned from skiing to snowboarding and never looked back.
The competitive fire that has come to define FitzSimons' career was fueled by friendly rivalry with his brother, Tucker, with each pushing the other to land new tricks and be first on the mountain and last to leave. His parents, who served as series directors for the Mt. Hood USASA series, supported his development through the junior ranks. FitzSimons' skateboarding roots profoundly influenced his snowboarding style, and his family built three large skate ramps in their backyard. By age 9, he was competing in both skateboarding and snowboarding events. His rapid progression led to victories at national competitions in slopestyle and halfpipe, earning him an invitation to the Revolution Tour and subsequently to Project Gold Camps, the junior development program with U.S. Ski and Snowboard. FitzSimons joined the U.S. Snowboard Pro Team in 2019.
FitzSimons' breakthrough moment came at the 2022 Laax Open, where he captured his first world cup victory in slopestyle with a score of 80.91 points, a triumph that secured his qualification for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. Making his Olympic debut at age 21, FitzSimons finished third in the qualifying round and advanced to the slopestyle final alongside teammates Red Gerard and Chris Corning. He also competed in big air at those Games. Known by his nickname "Bon" among teammates, FitzSimons continued to build his resume with multiple world cup top-10 finishes and Nor-Am Cup podiums.
FitzSimons maintains a connection to board sports beyond snowboarding through skateboarding, mountain biking and kiteboarding on the Columbia River. His Hood River community has rallied behind him throughout his career, with local shops displaying his accomplishments and the entire town showing support for their hometown Olympian. When the competition season winds down, he focuses on filming projects that combine his love of snowboarding and skateboarding. With his technical rail skills and powerful triple cork 1620s on jumps, FitzSimons remains a compelling presence on the world cup stage and a proud representative of Oregon's vibrant board sports culture.
