Born in Colorado, Stacy Gaskill learned to snowboard at age 8 and entered her first snowboardcross race in 2014, immediately finding her calling in the high-speed, head-to-head discipline. Her aggressive riding style and ability to push through adversity have become her trademarks on the international circuit.
Gaskill's competitive career accelerated through the junior ranks as she dominated multiple disciplines. She claimed the number one spot in the Rocky Mountain Series in snowboard cross, slalom and giant slalom during the 2015-16 season, finishing fourth at nationals in snowboard cross. Her talent extended beyond racing—she placed fourth at the 2018 Freeride Junior World Championships in Austria and was named North American Champion in Freeride, showcasing her versatility as an all-around snowboarder. By 2018, she had earned a spot on the U.S. Snowboard Cross Team and was named Sportswoman of Colorado in Snowboarding, an honor she would receive several more times throughout her career.
Gaskill’s resilience and mental toughness were on full display at the 2023 Cervinia World Cup, where she came down with the flu yet still managed a career-best fourth-place finish—a performance she proudly calls her "Jordan Flu Game" race. She earned her first Olympic nomination for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, where she placed seventh in women's snowboard cross and ninth in the mixed team event. The 2020-21 season proved to be a breakthrough year as she finished sixth at the world championships—the top U.S. finish for both women and men—and placed in the top ten in five of seven world cups, finishing 11th overall in the world rankings.
Beyond snowboarding, Gaskill has distinguished herself as a three-time World Ultimate Frisbee Champion as a member of the University of Colorado Boulder Women's Ultimate A Team. Her athletic excellence runs in the family—her mother, Martha, represented the United States at the Paralympic Winter Games Sarajevo 1984 and Paralympic Winter Games Calgary 1988, winning a bronze medal at Calgary 1988 after losing a leg to bone cancer. Martha also skied exhibition races in the Winter Olympics to help promote Paralympic sports. She says when Stacy was little, she heard her mom give talks about the Olympic experience. Gaskill has spoken emotionally about sharing the Olympic experience with her mother, calling their parallel journeys to the Games something they will cherish forever. Off the slopes, Gaskill enjoys cooking, playing guitar and following her favorite sports teams including the Indiana Fever, USWNT and Colorado Avalanche.
