After a thorough review process, the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s Certification Review Group (CRG) determined that USA Badminton did not meet key compliance requirements to fulfill the terms of our Settlement Agreement.
With this decision, the USOPC now oversees high-performance programs and the selection of athletes and teams for “protected competitions” (i.e., major international competitions that serve as qualifying events for the Olympic and Paralympic Games). The USOPC will remain in this role until a new or existing organization has been identified to assume the responsibility of serving as the recognized NGB for badminton. It will be the critically important responsibility of that organization to lead badminton in the United States and rebuild a supportive community of athletes and clubs that can carry the sport forward.
During this process, USA Badminton remains the BWF's national federation member for the United States, and it continues as an independent entity that may host events and enter athletes into BWF-sanctioned events. The USOPC is not taking over USA Badminton and in the immediate term, there are no changes for USA Badminton members or clubs.
