Cody Winters was introduced to snowboarding as a family adventure, learning from his father and older brother on the same mountain where his father became the first snowboarder to ride a chairlift at Steamboat Resort in 1982. Since then, Winters has excelled in both alpine snowboarding and snowboard cross.
Winters' competitive career has been marked by steady progression and historic achievements across multiple disciplines. He earned his first Olympic nomination for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, competing in men's parallel giant slalom. Throughout his career, he has collected titles across NorAm, Europa Cup and junior competitions, including a silver medal at the FIS Junior Snowboard World Championships in parallel slalom—the first time the United States medaled in that event. He also claimed the first-ever gold medal by an American in a Europa Cup snowboard slalom event.
During the 2024-25 season, Winters became the first American snowboarder to earn world cup podiums in two different disciplines in a single season. In January 2025, he captured third place in parallel slalom at Bad Gastein, Austria—Team USA's first alpine snowboard world cup podium since 2015. Weeks later, he added a snowboardcross bronze medal in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. He was the first rider to compete in world cup events across both parallel and snowboard cross disciplines since 2009, managing one of the most demanding competition schedules in snowboarding. At the 2025 FIS Snowboard World Championships in Engadin, Switzerland, Winters placed eighth in parallel giant slalom and fifth in parallel slalom and advanced through snowboard cross qualification rounds, demonstrating his ability to perform at the highest level across multiple events.
Winters has maintained strong ties to his Colorado roots throughout his career. He trained extensively with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, crediting coach Thedo Remmelink as instrumental to his development. At 18, Winters founded Winters Window Washing, running the business during summer months while training and competing internationally during winter. His entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic have helped fund his snowboarding career, particularly in the early years when he relied on grassroots fundraising to compete on the world cup circuit.
