Biographical Information
Redmond "Red" Gerard is an American snowboarder renowned for his slopestyle and big air performances. Inspired by his other siblings, Gerard began snowboarding at the age of two. In 2007, his family relocated to Silverthorne, Colorado, where they constructed a snowboarding park in their backyard, complete with a rope tow, to support Gerard's passion.
Gerard made history at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 by winning the gold medal in slopestyle at only 17 years old; he was the youngest American snowboarder to achieve this feat. He also competed in big air, finishing fifth. Gerard narrowly missed the podium at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, placing fourth in slopestyle and fifth in big air.
Beyond the Olympics, Gerard has secured multiple top finishes in prestigious competitions, including winning back-to-back wins in slopestyle at the 2024 and 2025 X Games.
Gerard is an advocate for young athletes and makes a difference in his hometown with Red’s Backyard, a non-profit organization and free park that enables kids to take part in outdoor sports at no cost. Gerard hopes to become more involved in organizations that give children the opportunity to try snowboarding, like The Chill Foundation.
