Paralympians Tatyana McFadden, Daniel Romanchuk Capture Silvers At Berlin Marathon

Six-time Paralympian Tatyana McFadden and two-time Paralympian Daniel Romanchuk didn’t wait long to get back to testing their endurance on the road.
Just weeks after competing at the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, where Romanchuk won bronze in the men’s wheelchair marathon and McFadden finished in fifth in the women's, the two athletes took to the streets of Germany on Sunday and collected more medals. McFadden won silver in the women’s wheelchair division of the Berlin Marathon, while Romanchuk also took the silver. 
McFadden, who won a gold, silver and bronze medal in Tokyo and was fifth in the marathon, finished in 1 hour, 38 minutes, 54 seconds. She was behind winner Manuela Schar of Switzerland, who crossed the line in 1:37:31. 
Romanchuk, from Mt. Airy, Maryland, once again battled a familiar foe in Switzerland’s Marcel Hug, the Paralympic champion with whom he has raced to the finish many a time during his career. Hug finished first Sunday in 1:24:03 with Romanchuk crossing the line in 1:24.47.
James Senbeta, a 2016 Paralympian from Philadelphia, also finished in the top 10, taking ninth with a time of 1:38.31. 
McFadden and Romanchuk were the only podium finishes of the day by U.S. athletes. The men didn’t have anyone in the top 25 and Shalane Flanagan was the highest finishing woman, coming in 17th with a time of 2:38:32. The four-time Olympian and 2008 Olympic silver medalist did not compete in Tokyo. 
McFadden’s Paralympic medal total is now at 20, with eight gold medals, eight silver medals and four bronze medals won between 2004 and Tokyo. Romanchuk won gold in the T54 400-meter final as well as bronze in the marathon this year, which was his second trip to the Paralympics but first time medaling.
