Kaillie Humphries Earns Third Monobob Podium Of Season In Germany

Kaillie Humphries bounced back from the worst finish of her monobob season to land back on the podium Saturday in Altenberg, Germany.
After finishing 13th a week ago in Winterberg, Humphries placed third Saturday behind Christine De Bruin and Cynthia Appiah, both former teammates of Humphries’ with Canada. Humphries put down a solid combined time of 2:00.15, just .06 seconds behind Appiah. But nobody could catch De Bruin, who was the only pilot to record a sub-2:00 time of 1:59.96. 
“I’m nursing a hamstring injury, so to walk away on the podium is good,” Humphries said to USA Bobsled/Skeleton. “Part of today’s goal was just to get through it healthy. … I’m happy with today, even though I know there’s more in the tank. I’m still in the process of building, and the sole focus is on February.”
Humphries now has a medal of each color this season, medaling in three of five events. She also competes in two-woman bobsled, which races Sunday. Humphries has competed for Team USA since 2019 but only recently earned her U.S. citizenship, making her eligible to compete under the U.S. flag should she qualify for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. She’s won three world championships for Team USA, two in two-woman and one in monobob.
Humphries’ U.S. teammate Elana Meyers Taylor recorded a season-low 12th in Altenberg despite posting the second-best start times in the field. The three-time Olympic medalist posted a combined time of 2:01.14.
