Olympian Tess Johnson Makes Moguls Podium In France

It’s been nearly three years since Olympian Tess Johnson landed on an individual moguls world cup podium, and that’s right on time as she looks to build momentum toward another Olympic appearance.
Johnson finished third Friday at the world cup stop in Alpe d’Huez, France, with a score of 76.64. Australia’s Jakara Anthony took the win with a score of 85.97 over Anri Kawamura of Japan with 77.21. Team USA’s Kai Owens and Hannah Soar also finished in the top 10.
It’s the first individual moguls podium for Johnson since Jan. 18, 2019, when she finished third in Lake Placid, New York. Johnson finished third in dual moguls earlier this year. She has one dual moguls win on her resume, but is still seeking her first world cup win on the individual side. After three events, Johnson is the top-ranked U.S. woman in fourth in the world cup standings, which will make up part of the qualification process for Beijing.
It’s perhaps easy to forget Johnson is only 21 as she is already an Olympian and has been on the national team for seven years. Johnson was in fact the youngest athlete ever named to the U.S. Ski & Snowboard National Team when she joined at 14 in 2016. She won her first world championship medal at 18, a bronze won behind her friend and teammate Jaelin Kauf in dual moguls at the 2019 worlds.
