Biographical Information

Piper Yde grew up approximately 20 miles from the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee. Her parents, Jay and Tracy, both met at the Pettit Center, which frequently hosts U.S. speedskating Olympic Trials. They both participated in inline skating marathon races in the area, and Piper told her kindergarten teacher even before learning to skate at age 9: “You’ll see me in the Olympics one day.”

At age 16, Yde was the youngest woman to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials for Speedskating, finishing eighth in the mass start. Following the 2022 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Yde would compete for Team USA at three consecutive world junior championships, competing in mass start and a variety of distances from 500m to 3,000m.
