Biographical Information

Maddie Mastro began skiing at the age of two and later transitioned to snowboarding around five or six when her parents promised her a pink snowboard. Mastro has an older brother who she says helped shape her into the person and rider she is today.

Mastro made her Olympic debut just before her 18th birthday finishing 12th in the women's halfpipe event at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. The following year, she secured a bronze medal in the halfpipe at the 2019 FIS Snowboard World Championships in Park City, Utah, and made history by becoming the first woman to land a double crippler (frontside double backflip) in competition during to win the US Open Snowboarding Championships.

After a silver medal at the 2021 FIS Snowboard World Championships, Mastro would face some injury plagued seasons that resulted in her spending much of the time prior to Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 in an ankle boot and not a snowboard boot. Mastro still managed to compete at Beijing 2022, finishing 13th. With a new coach, Mastro won her first career FIS World Cup event and first-ever Crystal Globe in halfpipe during the 2024-25 season.

Maddie is also passionate about sharing content that focuses on empowerment and is candid about mental health. In 2023, Maddie posted a video of herself after shaving her hair. She said that it was a way to show people that they should do whatever makes them happy and have confidence in their decision.
