Biographical Information

Corinne Stoddard grew up in Federal Way, Washington, the same area where other U.S. short track stars like Apolo Ohno and J.R. Celski were also raised. Stoddard began roller skating in kindergarten, eventually switching to inline skating a year later at the encouragement of the owner of the local skating rink. When she was around 11 years old, her mother convinced her to try speedskating because inline skating was not an Olympic sport. Stoddard still says about inline skating: “It is my number one passion. It’s just not in the Olympics.”

At 17, she moved to Salt Lake City to train full-time with the national team and finished 10th at the U.S. trials before the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. At the time, Stoddard was still competing in inline skating and would go on to become the world junior champion in the 10k elimination race at the 2019 World Roller Games. The following year, she would win two medals in short track speed skating at the world junior championships.

Stoddard made her Olympic debut at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, where she broke her nose in her first Olympic race. She still competed in the rest of her races at the Beijing Games, unable to breathe out of one nostril, with her best finish coming in the 1000m, where she finished 7th.

Two years later, Stoddard became a three-time world medalist at the 2024 short track world championships. Stoddard won silver in the women’s relay, bronze in the mixed relay, and bronze in the women’s 1500m. Stoddard and teammate Kristen Santos-Griswold both ended up on the podium in the women’s 1500m, marking the first time two U.S. women made the podium of the same individual event at worlds since short track became an Olympic medal sport in 1992.

Off the ice, Corie, as she is known to her friends, enjoys being a dog mom to her mini golden doodle, Mylo.  She enjoys hikes around the Wasatch Range or Sunday brunches with teammate and training partner Santos-Griswold. The two have created a social media account called "Fast But Unstable," a play on the word "unstable" and how the short track can challenge an athlete both physically and mentally.
