Chase Josey's path to elite-level snowboarding began in his hometown of Hailey, where his father Bill taught him to snowboard at age five on the slopes of Sun Valley. By age nine, he joined the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation under the guidance of coach Andy Gilbert, who recognized his exceptional talent early on. Throughout his youth career, Josey learned that success in Snowboarding extends beyond winning—it's about the people, memories, culture, and experiences that make up one’s career. This philosophy has helped him maintain a level-headed approach to competition throughout his career. Josey graduated from Sun Valley Community School in 2013 and has remained deeply connected to his Wood River Valley roots while competing internationally.
Josey competed at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, where he finished sixth in the men's halfpipe, and returned to the Olympic stage at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, placing seventh. Between Olympic appearances, he finished fifth at the 2021 FIS Snowboard World Championships in Aspen and has competed at multiple world championships throughout his career. His competitive resume includes a bronze medal at the 2016 X Games in Oslo and a victory at the prestigious Laax Open in Switzerland in 2017, one of halfpipe's most storied competitions.
Known for his technical bag of tricks and strategic approach to competition, Josey has built his reputation on versatility and creativity in the halfpipe. He is one of the few riders who consistently incorporates all four spin directions in his runs while seamlessly integrating backside tricks, creating a diverse style that sets him apart from his competitors. His runs are characterized by their technical difficulty, variety, and execution—a combination that has kept him competitive at the highest levels of the sport for over a decade.
Off the snow, Josey enjoys skateboarding, surfing, mountain biking, and snowmobiling—activities that keep him active and help facilitate and maintain the coordination and creativity that translate to his halfpipe riding.
