Britta Curl-Salemme grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota. Every winter, Curl-Salemme’s father, Bill, would set up a rink in their backyard. Following her older brother, Bryne, she decided to become a hockey player, playing on boys’ youth hockey teams until the eighth grade.
Curl-Salemme played five seasons at the University of Wisconsin, where she won three national championships with the Badgers. She left college as a two-time captain, and her college coach, Mark Johnson, one of the heroes for Team USA 1980 "Miracle on Ice" squad, described Curl-Salemmme as one of the best captains in Wisconsin history: “She’s genuine, she’s real, she’s considerate, she thinks of other people before herself.”
Curl-Salemme made her IIHF World Championship debut at the 2021 IIHF World Championships for the U.S. women’s hockey team. She was invited as one of 28 players to join the Olympic residency program before the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and was selected for her first Olympic team for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.
Professionally, Curl-Salemme plays in the PWHL for the Minnesota Frost, where she won the Walter Cup and was named to the PWHL All-Rookie Team in her first season in the league.
