Biographical Information
Growing up in a skiing family deeply connected to Winter Park Resort, Svea Irving was practically born on skis. Irving initially competed in moguls before switching to halfpipe at age 10, following in the footsteps of her older brother. She joined the U.S. Freeski Team in 2018 at age 16 and has been a fixture on the international competition circuit ever since.
Irving first made waves in the halfpipe scene when she earned bronze at X Games Aspen in 2023 as an alternate, marking her first professional podium. The breakthrough performance came after she landed a technical combination of tricks in challenging conditions, announcing her arrival among the sport's elite. She has since added world cup podium finishes to her resume, including third-place performances in both Calgary in the 2023-24 season and Secret Garden in the 2024-25 season.
Irving qualified for her first Olympic Games after earning a third-place finish at the Calgary Snow Rodeo World Cup in January 2026.
Beyond competition, Irving has channeled her passion for skiing into creative projects. In 2024, she released her first ski film, "Stasis," a showcase of both her halfpipe technical skills and her love for backcountry freeskiing. The project reflects her artistic side and adventurous spirit, filmed in collaboration with director Griffin Glendinning. Irving is also an advocate for environmental protection, working to address climate change's impact on winter sports and mountain communities.
Irving balances her athletic career with a commitment to education and personal growth. While competing at the highest level of freeski halfpipe, she successfully completed her degree in strategic communications at the University of Colorado Boulder, demonstrating her ability to excel both on and off the mountain. When not training or competing, she enjoys exploring the backcountry with her brother, filming ski segments and driving her beloved truck through the Colorado mountains she calls home.
