Biographical Information

Nathan “Nate” Pare has had aspirations of becoming a professional snowboarder since he was young, noting that he has a school book from the fifth grade that has ‘I want to be a professional snowboarder’ written inside.

Pare's path to elite-level snowboard cross began in his home state of Maine, where he attended Hall-Dale Middle School before training at Gould Academy in Bethel. He later completed a post-graduate program at Carrabassett Valley Academy, where his coach Freddy McCarthy immediately recognized his exceptional potential. McCarthy has praised Pare's instinctive racing intelligence, noting his ability to read courses and position himself strategically against competitors. Team USA head coach Rob Fagan has similarly highlighted Pare's coachability and his tactical understanding of how to maximize his athletic abilities on technical courses.

The 2024-25 season marked Nathan “Nate” Pare's arrival on the world stage of snowboardcross. The Maine native earned his first world cup podium with a third-place finish at Mont-Sainte-Anne, established himself as the top-ranked American in the discipline, and competed at the World Championships in Engadin, Switzerland. His breakout performance came just one year after a broken jaw sidelined him during what would have been his Rookie of the Year season. The injury in March 2024 required his jaw to be wired shut, needing to eat through a syringe and led to significant muscle mass and weight. He came back strong, putting in the work to return his body to the level required for international competition.

At the 2025 FIS Junior World Championships in Isola 2000, France, Pare showcased his versatility and tactical racing skills. He earned a silver medal in the individual snowboard cross event and helped Team USA claim bronze in the mixed team competition alongside teammate Brianna Schnorrbusch. Throughout the 2024-25 FIS World Cup season, he recorded three top 10 finishes and competed at the 2025 FIS Snowboard World Championships in Engadin, Switzerland, where all four American men successfully qualified for the championship rounds.

Pare is known for his speed, calm competitive edge, and split-second timing in navigating the chaos of snowboard cross racing. Off the snow, he works in residential construction during the offseason, applying the same discipline and work ethic to his trade as he brings to training and competition.
