Biographical Information
Canter's snowboarding journey has been marked by remarkable resilience. In 2016, while practicing on trampolines at Woodward at Copper Mountain Resort, he suffered a severe head injury that nearly claimed his life. Doctors gave him just a 20 percent chance of survival as he lay in a medically induced coma. Against all odds, Canter recovered rapidly and returned to Snowboarding in August 2017, though the injury left him permanently deaf in his right ear. His balance remained unaffected, allowing him to continue pursuing his Snowboarding dreams.
The Colorado native initially competed in halfpipe, capturing the Junior Jam title at the 2018 U.S. Open. However, after learning bigger tricks on slopestyle jumps while training in Switzerland later that year, Canter made the strategic decision to shift his focus entirely to slopestyle. The gamble paid off when, at just 15 years old, he received a last-minute invitation from his childhood idol Mark McMorris to compete in the inaugural 2019 Knuckle Huck at X Games Aspen. Canter delivered a standout performance with a backside 1080 from the knuckle, earning a silver medal.
Canter continued building his competitive resume with a bronze medal at the 2022 Laax Open, his first FIS World Cup podium in slopestyle. He represented Team USA at the 2023 FIS Snowboard World Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia, finishing 11th in his world championship debut. Throughout the 2022-23 season, Canter demonstrated consistent improvement with multiple top-10 world cup finishes as he expanded his technical repertoire to include 1800-degree rotations. A member of the U.S. Snowboard Slopestyle Pro Team since 2019, Canter has also created content for Red Bull's "Brothers McMorris" web series and competed in showcase events like the Recharge at Mammoth Mountain.
Beyond snowboarding, Canter is an accomplished skateboarder. He applies the flow and creativity of skateboarding to his approach on slopestyle courses, viewing each run through the lens of a skateboarder navigating a bowl. This cross-disciplinary perspective has helped define his distinctive style on snow.
