Lacey Henderson was just nine years old when her leg was amputated above the knee in a lifesaving measure after the diagnosis of a rare soft tissue tumor in her knee. She grew up active and never one to shy away from a challenge. She competed in cheerleading at the University of Denver before trying track and field in 2012. Her father, T.J., was a national decathlon champion who also went to the U.S. Olympic Trials for pole vaulting. He challenged his daughter that she couldn’t do the pole vault and when she did, she fell in love with the sport. She made her first U.S. Paralympic Team four years later in Rio de Janeiro
