Biographical Information
Before transitioning to aerial skiing, Kyra Dossa spent 16 years refining her skills as a competitive gymnast at Gymnastics World in Brecksville, developing the body awareness and spatial orientation that would later prove essential in her new sport. She grew up skiing at Boston Mills starting at age 3, taking annual family trips to Utah and Colorado that fostered her love for the mountains. During a family ski vacation to Park City when Dossa was 17, a chance meeting with retired freestyle aerial coach Carrie Miller changed everything. Miller mentioned the scarcity of women competing in aerials and encouraged Dossa to visit Utah Olympic Park's training facility.
After just five days at a training camp, Dossa knew she had found her calling. The combination of skiing, flipping and the technical precision required in aerials felt like a natural evolution of her gymnastics background. She immediately joined the Park City Ski & Snowboard freestyle team, beginning an accelerated progression that would see her rise through the ranks with remarkable speed.
In just her second year of competition, Dossa made an immediate impact on the international stage. After earning strong results on the NorAm circuit, she received an invitation to compete at the 2024 Freestyle International at Deer Valley, where she stunned observers by finishing eighth in her world cup debut. That same spring, she traveled to Chiesa in Valmalenco, Italy, for the 2024 FIS Junior World Championships, where she placed seventh individually and fourth in the mixed team aerials event alongside Connor Curran and Ian Schoenwald. Her remarkable progress in such a short time earned her a spot on the 2024-25 U.S. Freestyle Ski Team Development roster.
The 2024-25 season showcased Dossa's continued development as she competed regularly on the world cup circuit. At the season opener in Ruka, Finland, she delivered her best career result at the time with a fourth-place finish, demonstrating clean landings when other competitors struggled with the packed surface conditions. She followed with additional top-10 results, including ninth at Lake Placid and 10th at Livigno, Italy. On the NorAm circuit, Dossa excelled with consistent performances that earned her third place in the overall aerials standings. Her combination of gymnastic precision and growing confidence on the aerial jumps positioned her as one of Team USA's rising stars.
Named to the roster for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, Dossa became a designated Olympian in just her third year of aerial skiing competition, a testament to her natural talent and relentless work ethic. Dossa credits her gymnastics background for providing the foundation that allowed such a rapid transition, though she emphasizes that the mental toughness required to overcome setbacks has been equally important to her success.
