Julio Marino grew up in Westport, Connecticut, and started skiing at age three. She transitioned to snowboarding at age 13 when her ski broke in half during a family ski trip, and her dad would not rent new poles.
Five years later, Marino went from forerunner to first place when she won the FIS World Cup Big Air event at Fenway Park, only entering the field after another athlete had to withdraw. She continued her breakout season on tour by winning the X Games title in slopestyle in her first time at the event.
Marino earned her first Olympic medal at her second Olympics, a silver in women’s slopestyle, which was the first medal for Team USA at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. The following year, she would win her first Crystal Globe when she won the last three FIS World Cup stops of the season, which included the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix in Mammoth and Calgary Snow Rodeo.
