Biographical Information

Josie Johnson has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in American ski jumping, bringing a fearless approach and technical precision to the sport. The Park City native made history at the Youth Olympic Winter Games Gangwon 2024, capturing silver in the women's HS109 event to become the first American athlete to reach the podium in ski jumping at a Youth Olympics. Battling through challenging conditions that included high winds and icy precipitation, Johnson posted jumps of 100 meters and 107 meters—the latter marking a personal best at the time.

Johnson's breakthrough on the international stage built on steady progress through the junior ranks. During the 2022-23 season, she earned world cup points twice, finishing 27th and 30th in Rasnov, Romania. At the 2023 Junior World Championships in Whistler, British Columbia, she recorded a personal best with a 17th-place finish in the individual HS104 event. In January 2025, Johnson continued her upward trajectory with seventh- and eighth-place finishes at Intercontinental Cup competitions in Bischofshofen, Austria, finishing as the top American both days on the HS 142 hill.

Through a partnership between the U.S. Ski & Snowboard and the Norwegian ski jumping federation that began in 2022, Johnson has been able to train in Norway with access to world-class coaching, facilities and technical expertise. She has credited the collaboration with improving her technique and helping American ski jumpers gain consistency at the international level. Her early training under a club coach who sent her off the hill in challenging wind conditions proved invaluable, preparing her for competition in any weather.

Johnson competed in the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in February 2025 in Trondheim, Norway, representing the United States alongside veteran teammates. She then qualified for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Outside of ski jumping, Johnson is an adventurous athlete who enjoys mountain biking and climbing. She has broken multiple bones in her athletic pursuits—though, notably, none from ski jumping itself.
