Biographical Information

Iris Pflum began snowboarding at age 9, inspired by her older brother who introduced her to the sport. She quickly discovered her love for parallel racing and joined the G Team, Minnesota's premier snowboard and freeski club that has developed into a powerhouse program for alpine snowboard racing. Training primarily at Buck Hill in Burnsville and Hyland Ski and Snowboard Area in Bloomington, Pflum rose through the junior ranks alongside a remarkable cohort of Minnesota talent. In 2019, she was one of seven athletes from the G Team selected to represent the United States at the FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships in Slovenia, with six of the 12-person U.S. team coming from Minnesota—an unprecedented achievement that highlighted the strength of the state's alpine snowboard program.

Pflum's breakthrough on the international stage came at the 2023 FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships in Bansko, Bulgaria, where she captured two silver medals in consecutive days of competition. She finished second in the parallel giant slalom and earned another silver medal in the parallel slalom, demonstrating her versatility across alpine snowboard disciplines. Her consistent performances at the junior level earned her progression to the senior world cup circuit, where she has competed regularly in both parallel giant slalom and parallel slalom events. Pflum secured victories in both disciplines at the 2021-22 NorAm Cup races at Steamboat Ski and Resort, establishing herself as a rising force in the U.S. alpine snowboard program.

In January 2025, Pflum and teammate Walker Overstake earned their first career world cup podium with a third-place finish in the mixed team parallel giant slalom event at Simonhohe, Austria. The U.S. pair upset Italian superstars Maurizio Bormolini and Elisa Caffont in the quarterfinals before securing bronze in a photo finish against Slovenia, with Pflum edging ahead of Gloria Kotnik by an arm's length.
