Biographical Information 

Girorgia Birkeland was born in Scandiano, Italy, about 100 miles south of Milan, and grew up in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. She started speedskating at age eight. 

At age 20, Birkeland won the U.S. Olympic Trials in mass start to qualify for her first Olympic team. She finished 12th in the mass start at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. 

After the Beijing Games, Birkeland would win her first world championship medal, a bronze, in the team pursuit at the 2023 world championships. 

Off the ice, Birkeland’s hobbies include skiing and painting.
