About Lizzie Pettee:
I’ve been curling since I watched the 2010 Olympic Games one early morning while eating breakfast with my dad. I told him that curling looked fun and I wanted to try it. I researched the nearest clubs and I signed up for my club’s middle school league that day.
I love that curling takes me to places I wouldn’t have gone to, and people I wouldn’t have met otherwise. My favorite bonspiel I’ve been to so far has been the Surf City Spiel in Los Angeles at the Orange County Curling Club. I signed up as a team-less, 14-year-old for an adult bonspiel, but when I arrived I was instantly greeted and welcomed by people who love the same sport I do. I even got to compete against past Olympians and people I’ve looked up to for years!
Do you have any hidden talents? Something unique about yourself? When I’m not curling, I write, produce, and perform original music, and currently have songs on iTunes.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received? “Practice like you perform, and perform like you practice.”
Any nicknames? My Connecticut State Championship’s team called me Scoreboard every time they saw me and I’m still not sure why.
Other Olympic sport you’d like to try? I always joke with my friends that I’m going to try luge one day.
