Colin Hufman grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska as part of a family that has played the sport of curling for generations. Colin realized his own potential when he was the runner-up at age 10 in a local cash prize hotshot curling tournament, where individuals twice his age squared off against him in an individual shooting skill competition.
In 2002, Hufman would be part of the team that won the U.S. junior curling championships. He made his Olympic debut, twenty years later, at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 as the alternate for the U.S. men's team, the defending gold medalists. Hufman filled in for lead John Landsteiner in a round-robin loss during the Beijing Games and replaced Landsteiner full-time as the fourth member of Team Shuster when Landsteiner retired at the end of the 2024-25 curling season. Before joining Team Shuster, Hufman was part of two national championship teams in 2016 and 2018.
Off the ice, Hufman got his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington Bothell in 2016. Hufman thinks mechanical engineering and curling are very related: "The ice conditions are always different, and so is the way you throw the rock, figuring how to adapt based on the varying conditions requires similar problem-solving skills to that of mechanical engineering."
