Biographical Information
Chelsea Graygrew up in Manteca, just outside of the North Bay area of California. Gray grew up playing basketball first on a little basket in the backyard and eventually finished her prep career as a state champion and a McDonald’s All-American.
Gray attended Duke University, where she helped lead the Blue Devils to three consecutive Elite Eight appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Her senior season ended prematurely due to a fractured kneecap.
Gray was selected 11th overall in the 2014 WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun and missed the subsequent season due to rehabilitation of her knee. After one season with Connecticut, Gray was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks, where she won her first WNBA title in 2016. The following season, Gray was named a WNBA All-Star for the first time and joined the national team roster in preparation for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Gray signed with the Las Vegas Aces before the 2021 season. Gray, along with a nucleus of Team USA teammates like A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young, would go on to win three titles in four seasons.
Gray made her Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games, and three years later, at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, she was the starting point guard for Team USA as they won their eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal. 2024 Team USA head coach Cheryl Reeve said, “Chelsea is the leader of a team that wins championships, and she has been in hard environments. Those times are valuable. She and A’ja (Wilson) have this connection, this synergy. That combo is really good for us.”
Off the court, Gray married Tipesa Moorer in 2019, and in her vows, she said, “I found someone I can fall in love with every day.” The couple would have their first child, Lennox, in 2024.
