Took up speedskating at age 11
Casey Dawson grew up in Park City, Utah, and took up speedskating at age 11 through a Youth Sports Alliance program at a local club.
Seven years later, Dawson made the national team, and within a few years, he qualified for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, where he won a bronze medal in the team pursuit.
At age 25, Dawson won his first individual ISU World Cup event in the 5,000m, setting the U.S. record in the process, the weekend after he and his teammates broke the world record in team pursuit at the Salt Lake City World Cup.
After setting that world record in his home state, Dawson said, “My goal, other than going to the Olympics, is to keep inspiring the next generation. I was the kid 10 years ago watching people break world records … After the race, there was a line of kids waiting to get our signatures. It was great because, who knows, we might see those kids skating in the next couple of years and in the 2034 Olympics here in Salt Lake.”
