Carl Burnett

Carl Burnett is a veteran of the U.S. Adaptive Skiing Team, having first been named to the team in 1998. He made his Paralympic Games debut in Salt Lake City in 2002 and had his best Games finish - fifth place in the downhill - in Torino in 2006. Burnett competed in five events at the 2010 Paralympics Winter Games in Vancouver and came in ninth place in the Slalom event.

Burnett was paralyzed below the waist in a car crash when he was five years old. He took up ski racing at age 12 after watching a race in New Hampshire, and at age 15, he swept all four junior national titles.

Burnett is a well-rounded skier as he's at home on the high-speed super G course as much as he is running gates in slalom or giant slalom. During the 2008 season, Burnett finished each World Cup in which he competed inside the top-15.

Burnett graduated from Dartmouth in 2005 with a degree in linguistics and has edited a dictionary of skiing terminology. While he has some downtime on the road, Burnett likes to take on teammate Ralph Green in Scrabble and chess.

• 2002: Ninth, giant slalom; 11th place, super G; 11th place, slalom - Paralympic Winter Games, Salt Lake City, Utah
• 1997: Swept all four junior national titles
