Biographical Information

Ben Loomis grew up ski jumping at the Flying Eagles Ski Club, following his older brother Adam into the sport at age 5. Nordic combined captured his attention early, and he dedicated himself to mastering both technical precision on the ski jump and the endurance demands of cross-country racing.

At age 15, Loomis made the pivotal decision to move to Park City, Utah, to attend the Winter Sports School, where he could access higher-quality training while balancing his academics. His commitment paid off quickly as he rose through the junior ranks, earning six U.S. Junior National titles and competing at five Junior World Championships between 2014 and 2018. During the 2018 FIS Nordic Junior World Championships, he captured bronze in the 10-kilometer individual Gundersen event and placed fourth in the 5-kilometer event, solidifying his status as one of America's top young Nordic combined athletes. In 2016, he won silver at the Youth Olympic Winter Games Lillehammer 2016 in Nordic combined—the first U.S. medal in the sport at a Youth Games—and was named the USSA Nordic Combined Athlete of the Year.

Loomis made his Olympic debut at age 19 at the Olympic Winter Games Pyeongchang 2018, competing in all three events and gaining invaluable experience on the world's biggest stage. He showed marked improvement by Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, climbing 26 spots in the normal hill event (finishing 15th), advancing 21 places in the large hill event (19th), and helping Team USA place sixth in the team competition. Between Olympic cycles, Loomis has been a consistent presence on the world cup and world championship circuits, posting his best world cup result—a 12th-place finish at Val di Fiemme during the 2021-22 season—which marked the top world cup finish by a U.S. Nordic combined athlete since 2018. At the 2025 FIS Nordic World Championships, he contributed to strong team performances and walked away from the 2025 U.S. Nordic Combined Summer National Championships with gold and silver medals.

In 2019, Loomis joined the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program, which supports elite athletes by allowing them to train and compete full time while building military careers. This partnership has enabled him to maintain his focus on international competition while serving his country in a different capacity. Outside of competition, he enjoys biking, water skiing, fishing, alpine skiing and hiking.

Loomis earned his third Olympic nomination for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, joining teammate Niklas Malacinski for a two-man U.S. Nordic Combined Team.
