Biographical Information

Aerin Frankel grew up in Chappaqua, New York, a suburb north of New York City, and started skating at the Westchester Skating Academy at a young age. Frankel gravitated towards hockey as a sport that she loved right away and played alongside boys for years, only switching to girls’ hockey when she left home for prep school at Shattuck-St. Mary's (Fairbault, Minn.).

After her prep school was back-to-back national champions, Frankel attended Northeastern University (Boston), where she led the Huskies to consecutive Frozen Four appearances and won the 2021 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, given to the top player in women’s hockey.

She would make her IIHF World Championship debut for the U.S. women’s hockey team at the 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championship and has been the starting goaltender on the U.S. women’s team since the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship, when the Americans won gold.

Frankel was one of the first three players signed by the Boston Fleet in PWHL, along with Team USA teammates Hilary Knight and Megan Keller. Boston fans have nicknamed her “Green Monster,” an ode to the left field wall at famed Red Sox Stadium, Fenway Park.

Off the ice, Frankel is a foodie and started an Instagram account (@painbyromaine) where she reviews Caesar salads from different spots across Boston and the United States.
