Duet Megumi Field, Natalia Vega Win Again In Artistic Swimming World Series

The FINA Artistic Swimming World Series has been mostly virtual this season, and that’s worked out just fine for Megumi Field and Natalia Vega.
The duo won the women’s duet free event Sunday in the virtual competition hosted by Australia, marking their third win in as many World Series events this season. They opened the World Series in March by claiming the duet free title at the virtual event put on by the U.S. and Canada. In April, they won the same event in Paris.
Now they’ve done it again.
Field and Vega scored 84.900 points to beat the second-place team from South Korea by .700.
The pair also took part in the mixed team highlight event on Sunday, which the U.S. also won. The Americans scored 84.6333 to second-place Canada’s 82.9667. This was also Team USA’s third win this season in the team highlight event.
The 23-year-old Vega, from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, was the oldest member of the highlight squad, while Field, 16, from Wilmington, Delaware, was one of eight teens on the 10-member team.
In the World Series, athletes compete in women’s, men’s and mixed competitions in solo, duet and team events, with medals being awarded for both free and technical programs. That format differs from the Olympic format, which has competition only for women’s duets and women’s teams, and winners are determined based on a combined free and technical routine.
Vega and Field were listed on the start list for the women’s duet technical event but didn’t end up competing.
Following the Australia event, the World Series wraps up with the Super Finals on May 20-22 in Athens, Greece.
