Biographical Information

Tara Davis-Woodhall grew up in Frisco, Texas, as the youngest of five children before moving with her family to California at age 11. Davis-Woodhall was a standout high school track athlete at Agoura High School in Agoura Hills, California, and finished off her high school career with individual state titles in multiple events (100-meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump).

Davis-Woodhall finished her collegiate career at the University of Texas, where she swept the NCAA indoor and outdoor championships in the long jump in her final season (2020-21). After the collegiate season ended, Davis-Woodhall made her Olympic debut at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 where she finished sixth in the long jump.

Three years later, Davis-Woodhall would qualify for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and win gold in the long jump. She said after her gold medal: “My entire life goal was to change the sport of long jump and get eyes on long jump, and I had the entire stadium watch the long jump for just a split second. And it means more than anything.” 

The following season, Davis-Woodhall would capture her first world title in the long jump in Tokyo at the same stadium where she made her Olympic debut four years earlier. 

Off the track, Davis-Woodhall married fellow track and field athlete and Paralympic gold medalist Hunter Woodhall in 2022. The two first met at a track meet in Idaho in 2017, and both were in the stands when the other won gold at the Paris Games.
