Personal

Tamara Gorman got her start in multisport by entering a youth triathlon at her local pool in Rapid City, South Dakota, with her brother. She was a competitive swimmer growing up, so Triathlon appealed to her. A few years later, Jenny Weber — the coach of Z3 High Performance Triathlon Team, a junior squad based in Des Moines — found out about her talents in swimming and running. She flew in to meet Gorman and fellow junior triathlete Tony Smoragiewicz, who also grew up in Rapid City. The following summer, Gorman competed in her first draft-legal triathlon. Even after crashing on her bike she still loved the sport and had a desire to continue racing. After completing her junior triathlon career, she took a year off in 2016 to run NCAA Division I track and cross country for the University of Minnesota. During the cross-country season in 2016 she was hit by a car, ending her season. She returned to triathlon in 2017 to win the ITU Triathlon Under-23 world title and earn her first elite ITU Triathlon World Cup podium in Salinas, Ecuador. She considers this to be the proudest moment of her career. Her biggest mentor is her brother because he has always been there for her and gives her great advice on how to stay mentally strong while competing as an elite athlete. She is inspired by athletes such as Bethany Hamilton (surfing) and Lindsay Vonn (skiing). Outside of triathlon, Gorman enjoys Surfing, skiing, baking and listening to podcasts.

Elite Triathlon Career

2022: Opened up her season on March 12 by racing at the 2022 Americas Triathlon Cup Sarasota-Bradenton and placed sixth • Earned a podium by claiming the silver medal at the Americas Triathlon Cup in Salinas, Ecuador on April 24 • Placed 17th at the World Triathlon Cup Arzachena, Italy on May 28 • Finished 13th on October 15 at the World Triathlon Cup Tongyeong in Korea.

2021: Earned the bronze medal at the Americas Cup Long Beach.

2019: Earned a bronze medal at the ITU Triathlon World Cup season opener in Cape Town on Feb. 10 • Placed 7th at the ITU Triathlon World Cup in Mooloolaba on March 16 • Placed 4th at the ITU Triathlon World Cup in New Plymouth on March 31 • Earned 9th at the ITU World Triathlon Series stop in Yokohama, on May 18 • Finished 10th at the ITU World Triathlon in Leeds, on June 9 • Placed 28th at the ITU World Triathlon Montreal, on June 29 • Earned 18th at the ITU World Triathlon Edmonton • Teamed up with Summer Rappaport, Seth Rider and Ben Kanute to earn bronze at the ITU World Triathlon Mixed Relay Series in Tokyo on Aug. 18 • Raced to a silver medal at the Karlovy Vary ITU Triathlon World Cup in the Czech Republic on Aug. 25 • Finished 21st at the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Aug. 31 • Teamed up with Darr Smith, Taylor Knibb and Seth Rider to earn bronze at the ITU U23-Junior Mixed Relay World Championships in Lausanne on Sept. 1 • Raced to a silver medal at the Banyoles ITU Triathlon World Cup on Sept. 7

2017: After a year off of triathlon, opened her season with a third-place finish at the Ottawa CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon Premium American Cup on June 17 • Claimed second at the West Des Moines CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Cup on July 9, earning the USA Triathlon U23 National Championships silver medal in the process • Placed 12th at the Tiszaujvaros ITU Triathlon World Cup on July 22 • Earned a top-five finish at the Yucatán ITU Triathlon World Cup on Aug. 12 • Won the gold medal at the ITU U23 World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on Sept. 14 • Took 16th at the Sarasota ITU Triathlon (Duathlon) World Cup on Oct. 7 • Earned her first ITU World Cup medal with a silver in Salinas, Ecuador, on Oct. 29

2015: Placed 31st at the New Plymouth ITU Triathlon World Cup on March 22 • Won the Monroe CAMTRI Triathlon Junior American Cup on June 20 • Took sixth at the Holten ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup on July 4 • Was the runner-up at the USA Triathlon Junior National Championships on Aug. 1 • Finished ninth at the ITU Junior World Championships in Chicago on Sept. 15

2014: Earned bronze at the Sarasota PATCO Sprint Triathlon American Cup on March 8 • Placed 29th in her ITU World Triathlon Series debut in Hamburg on July 12 • Earned her second consecutive Junior Elite national title in West Chester on Aug. 2

2013: Started her season with a victory in the junior field at the Vila Velha PATCO Triathlon Pan American Championships on June 29 • Claimed the USA Triathlon Junior Elite national title in West Chester, Ohio, on Aug. 3 • Became the first American woman to earn a junior world title at the ITU Junior World Championships in London on Sept. 11

2012: Took silver at the Edmonton PATCO Triathlon Junior Pan American Championships on July 8 • Earned a bronze medal at the ITU Junior World Championships in Auckland, Australia, on Oct. 20
