Mark Barr lost his right leg as a teenager due to bone cancer.
Barr competed in swimming at the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
During this time, he was also an NCAA Division I swimmer for California Polytechnic State University from 2004-08.
After college, he still had an interest in swimming, but wanted to try something new so he decided to transition to triathlon.
Some of his more recent accomplishments include being awarded the 2019 ESPY for Best Male Athlete with a Disability and being named the 2018 USA Triathlon Male Paratriathlete of the Year.
Barr currently works as a registered nurse in the trauma surgical ICU, working multiple 12-hour shifts a week.
He uses his days off to fit in training sessions for all three disciplines. His favorite professional sports teams are the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers.
