Samuel Craven started competing in track & field at the junior level in 2001 and has now worked his way onto the U.S. Paralympics Track & Field National Team. Craven chose track & field as his sport because he felt that it would give him the greatest opportunity to compete on an international level. He said, “I feel this is a great achievement, honor, and privilege to be part of Team USA.”

Craven is currently preparing for the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships, with an eye on trying to eventually qualify for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. In order to get ready, he is training year round with a personal coach as well as with the U.S. Paralympics National Team. Craven is also the current U.S. record holder for shot put and discus.

Craven attended Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, California. His hopes for the future include competing on an international level for many years, continuing his education, and teaching.
