Biographical Information

Rell Harwood’s introduction to skiing began at age 3 when her parents enrolled her and her brother in the Park City Ski and Snowboard Club's Learn to Race program. Harwood initially resisted the sport, finding little excitement in traditional ski instruction and racing. Her perspective changed dramatically at age 9 when she discovered freestyle skiing and joined Park City Freestyle to train in big mountain and park and pipe disciplines.

Harwood's natural talent for freestyle became apparent as her skills quickly escalated and she began entering local competitions. She found success in both halfpipe and slopestyle events, progressing rapidly through the competitive ranks. By age 15 in February 2017, she earned her first world cup start at Mammoth Mountain, California, finishing 19th in slopestyle. Shortly after, she was named to the U.S. Freeski Rookie Team, joining athletes she had idolized, including Maggie Voisin

Harwood suffered her first ACL tear in September 2021 while attempting a switch misty 900 in Italy, forcing her to miss the entire 2021-22 season and derailing her Olympic qualification hopes. After a nine-month rehabilitation process, Harwood returned to competition. Her comeback was short-lived when she then broke her collarbone in 2023 during a training session, followed by a second ACL tear in 2025 on her opposite knee. Despite these challenges, Harwood's resilience and dedication to the sport never wavered.

During the 2024-25 season, Harwood earned back-to-back world cup bronze medals in slopestyle at Aspen, Colorado, and Stoneham, Canada. At the 2024 X Games in Aspen, Harwood competed in four events over 48 hours during her debut appearance, telling reporters she would compete in 10 events if possible. She captured silver in Knuckle Huck and bronze in big air, demonstrating her versatility across disciplines. Harwood followed that performance with gold in Knuckle Huck at the 2025 X Games in Aspen.

Harwood balances her athletic career with her education, having earned her business degree from the University of Utah. When home in Park City, she enjoys exploring the mountains she grew up hiking, experimenting in the kitchen, and hunting for vintage finds at local thrift stores to fuel her distinctive on-slope style.
