Biographical Information
Nick Goepper is an American freestyle skier known for his achievements in slopestyle skiing. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and raised in Lawrenceburg, he began skiing at the age of five at Perfect North Slopes, a local resort. As a child, he sold candy bars to pay for his ski passes.
In 2009, Goepper relocated to Sandy, Oregon, to train at Windells Academy (now Wy'East Mountain Academy) on a full scholarship, where he trained alongside professional skiers. During his professional career, he earned a bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014, contributing to a historic U.S. podium sweep in men's slopestyle skiing. He continued his success with silver medals at both the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 and the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. Additionally, Goepper has secured multiple medals at the Winter X Games, including five golds and two silvers.
Off the slopes, Goepper enjoys surfing, skateboarding and mountain biking. He is an active philanthropist and mental health activist. In 2014, he partnered with Wy’East Mountain Academy to host a rail jam competition, the proceeds of which were donated to “The Cure Starts Now Foundation,” a non-profit dedicated to curing cancer. He has also spoken openly about his struggles with anxiety and depression, sharing how he’s overcome these obstacles in the face of athletic stardom. In January 2023, Goepper announced his retirement from competitive freeskiing, concluding a distinguished career that inspired many in the skiing community.
