- Born with cerebral palsy, Cross has limited balance and no mobility in her right arm. She learned about Paralympic track and field while running at high school meet in California where she met an assistant coach from another school that informed her about events at the California Interscholastic Federation State Track & Field Championships for athletes with physical disabilities. There she met Paralympian Ahkeel Whitehead, founder of the adaptive athletics program at San Diego State University, who brought her into the program. Since then, she has represented Team USA in international events, including the World Para Athletics Junior Championships.
