Biographical Information
Kimi Goetz, first introduction to skating was through inline skating at age 5. In 2010, Goetz won a gold medal at junior world inline championships in a team relay event. After junior success in inline skating, she took few years before moving to Utah at age 17 to pursue short track speedskating in 2013.
Goetz suffered a concuscionn during the first day of the 2018 U.S. Short Track Olympic Trials resulting in a faiulre to make her first Olympic team. A back injury proved to be an impetus to move to long track speedskating and Goetz made the transition being coached full-time by three-time Olympian and future husband Mitchell Whitmore. Goetz would her Olympic debut in the sport at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 finishing 7th in the 1000m and also competing in the 500m.
Within the next two years, Goetz would win back-to-back world medals at consecutive world championships including her first individual medal in the 500m in 2024. She had success on the ISU World Cup with six wins and six runner-ups post the Beijing Games. At the end of the 2024-2025 season, another back injury required surgery, and the recovery caused her to be off the ice for nearly six months as she was waiting to be cleared to skate.
Off the ice, Goetz enjoys cooking, baking, and hiking with her dog. In 2019, she published a cookbook called ‘Mindful Meals Cookbook’ which chronicled her move to Salt Lake City and learning to cook while training for the Olympic Games.
