Biographical Information

Joy Dunne grew up in a St. Louis suburb and started playing hockey at 4 years old. The year prior, she had tried figure skating, but quickly learned she liked the “physical contact” in hockey over Figure Skating.

The youngest of six siblings, all of whom ended up playing college hockey with her brother, Josh, having an NHL career, and her sister, Jayce, a member of Olympian as a member of the U.S. women’s hockey team for the Beijing Games.

The family’s long-running joke is that their story is a “true miracle on ice” because neither parent can skate.

Dunne attended Ohio State University, following in the footsteps of two of her sisters, and in her freshman season led the Buckeyes with 24 goals as they won the national title. Dunne scored the game-winning goal in the NCAA championship game. After the title game, Dunne would make her IIHF World Championship debut for the U.S. women's hockey team at the 2024 IIHF Women's World Championships.

After college, Dunne would like to play in the PWHL and has joked, “I’m trying to convince all of my sisters to come out of retirement and make a team.”
