McCabe has been training with the U.S. Paralympic Soccer Team since 2010. In 2013, he was a member of the squad that competed at the CPISRA Intercontinental Cup in Barcelona.

McCabe was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado. When he was an infant, he had hydrocephalus, which became the cause of his cerebral palsy. He started playing soccer at age 5 with his able-bodied classmates. Two years later, he played in his first game with the National Sports Center for the Disabled, and he scored five goals.

Since then, McCabe has played many sports with his able-bodied teammates and through the NSCD, including basketball, flag football, cross country and skiing, but soccer has always been where he felt most comfortable. He has played competitive soccer with FC Boulder since he was 10 years old, and he played four years with the Boulder High School team, finally making varsity his senior year. As a member of the team, he made it all the way to the state championship game, where he and his teammates unfortunately lost to Broomfield High School, 2-0.
