Biographical Information

Born to two parents who were professional snowboarders in the 1990s, Hanna Percy grew up immersed in snowboarding culture. By age 10, she had already surpassed her mother on the mountain, displaying the kind of aggressive, competitive edge that has come to define her racing career. Her mother, Kim Percy, recalls that Hanna's board seemed like an extension of her feet, a natural connection that set her apart from other young riders.

Percy's competitive career took off through junior competitions, where she quickly established herself as one of the nation's top young snowboard cross athletes. At age 16, she made the pivotal decision to leave her hometown and move across the country to attend Gould Academy in Maine, a prestigious institution known for developing elite winter sports athletes. The move paid immediate dividends—her results improved dramatically under higher-level coaching and training. She captured multiple NorAm Cup victories and earned podium finishes at Mont-Sainte-Anne. Percy also represented the United States at the 2025 Junior World Championships alongside teammates Brianna Schnorrbusch and Nathan Pare.

During the 2024-25 season, Percy’s performances were so impressive that she bypassed the typical development team pathway entirely, earning a spot directly on the U.S. Snowboard Cross Pro Team in her first official national team roster appearance—a rare achievement that speaks to her exceptional talent and results. At just 18 years old, she became the youngest member of the team. She made her mark on the world cup circuit with a 16th-place finish at Mont-Sainte-Anne and multiple top-20 results against elite international competition, proving she could compete with the world's best despite her youth and relative inexperience at the highest level.

Percy's approach to competition reveals both her fierce competitive nature and her ability to manage pressure. She describes the pressure of racing alongside competitors as something that makes her ride better, channeling the intensity into improved performance. Before each race, Percy maintains a unique pre-race ritual with her mother—dancing the Macarena in the start gate, a tradition they began when she was 8 years old to help calm her nerves. The lighthearted moment has become her signature way of staying loose and focused before charging down the course.

Percy's consistent performances and rapid ascent through the ranks earned her nomination to the U.S. Olympic Team for Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 at age 18. Outside of snowboarding, Percy has set her sights on becoming a commercial pilot, with dreams of owning her own plane and flying in and out of Truckee.
