Quick Facts

• Emily is the daughter of Jay and Laura Grund
• She started diving at age 5 and now trains five hours a day, six days a week
• Her favorite dive is 305B
• She uses the same orange towel at every competition and her lucky penguin, Pengy, is always in her dive bag
• When she's not diving, Emily participates in Navigate Leadership Academy
• She also loves penguins and her favorite diver is Greg Louganis
• Emily describes herself as funny, kind-hearted and genuine
• Emily enjoys movies and live theater
• Her mother (Laura) is a five time USA National Roller Skating Champion and U.S. Olympic Festival Champion
• Her father is a retired from the U.S. Secret Service
• Emily hopes to be a Speech Pathologist for special needs children
• Her special stuffed animal, Pengy, has been with Emily at every dive meet since her first competition when she was five years old. She also has used the same orange towel at every meet since she won her first national title in 2011
• She used to participate in competitive gymnastics
• Emily has overcome two concussions and patellar tendonitis
• She has been named a four time NISCA High School All-American. She was also named 2018 Female Diver of the Year at Keller High School
• She competed in her first junior nationals at the age of seven and in her first senior nationals at age 11
• Between dives, she listens to music (particularly the soundtrack to Hamilton)
• Emily loves to eat steak for dinner the night before competition
• Her favorite meals outside of competition are pizza and sushi
• If she could meet anyone, it would be Will Ferrell or Lin-Manuel Miranda
• Her goal is to graduate with a Masters in Occupational Speech Therapy and work with special needs children
