Three people you would love to have dinner with: I think if I had the chance to choose 3 people for dinner I would love to be with my grandfather, Gary Hopkins, Clayton Kershaw, and Kevin Hart. I would love to talk to my grandfather about my softball career as he never was able to see me play. I would love to pick Clayton Kershaw’s brain, a fellow left-hander, about his approach to pitching at the highest level. Finally, I think a dinner with Kevin Hart would be the funniest and most entertaining dinner ever.
Dream Job: Head coach at either football, baseball or softball at a high level
Pets: One dog (JD)
What does it mean for you to represent your country at this level?
Wearing those three letters across my chest and representing my country is the biggest thrill in my athletic life. Working hard with the other guys toward the ultimate goal of bringing home a medal would be such a proud and memorable moment.
What are the keys to the success of the USA Softball Junior Men’s National Team entering the World Championships?
As a pitcher, I would say we need to focus on pounding the strike zone, and having an aggressive mindset. Solid defense is a must. I would also say we need to jump on the other teams early.
What you do enjoy the most about fast pitch softball?
I enjoy how everyone who plays softball somehow knows each other and all of the camaraderie this sport shows. It has also been a thrill to be able to be on the field playing this game with my dad.
How did you get started in fast pitch?
I watched it growing up and grew up on the field. I was invited to a USA camp by Coach Standerfer 3 years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
