Biographical Information

Growing up in Rockford, Illinois, afforded limited opportunities for Smith to participate in snow sports. In 2014, he joined his older sister at Western Colorado University and the two siblings competed together in the Grand Traverse ski mountaineering race.

He’s an 11-time US Ski Mountaineering national champion, and five-time North American Ski Mountaineering champion. Smith holds the course record for the three largest Ski Mountaineering races in the United States: the Power of Four, the Grand Traverse and the Gothic Mountain Tour.

He has qualified for the Mountain and Trail Running World Championships representing the United States. Smith is an instructor for the Adaptive Sports Center of Crested Butte.
