Biographical Information
Ava McNaughton began playing hockey at age 6 after watching the Vancouver Games, as McNaughton "loved how fast everything was and how exciting it was to watch." According to her mom, Ava would volunteer to play goaltender whenever possible in youth hockey.
McNaughton attended an elite girls’ hockey program at Bishop Kearney, a private school in Rochester, New York, for high school before heading to the University of Wisconsin, where she won a national title in her sophomore year under head coach Mark Johnson, one of the heroes for Team USA 1980 "Miracle on Ice" squad. After winning a national title with Wisconsin, McNaughton was named to the U.S. women's hockey team for the 2025 IIHF World Championships and made her debut for Team USA in a group play win over Switzerland. Off the ice, she enjoys exploring different types of music, playing spike ball, and water sports like wakeboarding and wake surfing.
