Biographical Information

Alex Ferreira is an American freestyle skier specializing in the halfpipe discipline. Raised in Aspen, Colorado, he began skiing at a young age, influenced by his parents' athletic backgrounds. His father, Marcelo, was a professional soccer player and his mother, Colleen, was a state-level relay racer in New Jersey.

He began competitive freeskiing at the age of ten when his mother enrolled him in an aerials event without informing him. Ferreira attended Aspen High School where he partook in the Aspen Valley Ski Club (AVSC) and met Torin Yater-Wallace, a fellow professional skier, and some of his most influential mentors. Ferreira attended Colorado Mountain College and graduated in 2021.

Ferreira's notable achievements include winning a silver medal at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 and a bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. He has also secured multiple medals at the Winter X Games, including golds in Aspen in 2019, 2020 and 2024. In the 2023-24 season, Ferreira made history by becoming the first halfpipe skier to win every competition he entered, sweeping five world cups, X Games Aspen, and the Dew Tour.

Off the slopes, Ferreria is an active outdoorsman and enjoys hiking, biking, running, traveling and woodworking. He also runs a YouTube channel in which he dresses up and skis as an older man who goes by the name of Hotdog Hans.
