When he was 13, Aaron Pike suffered a spinal cord injury in a hunting accident. After meeting former U.S. Navy SEAL Carlos Moleda, who had experienced a similar injury himself and went on to win multiple Handcycle Division Ironman triathlons, Pike decided to try adaptive sports.
At the University of Illinois, Pike was on both the Para track and field team and the wheelchair basketball team, alongside future Paralympic gold medalists such as Tatyana McFadden, Steve Serio and Brian Bell. After making his Paralympic debut in 2012 at the age of 26, Pike was invited to a training camp by the U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing Team coaches and tried his hand at cross-country and biathlon making the team for the Paralympic Winter Games Sochi 2014.
Now a seven-time Paralympian, Pike is a nine-time world medalist in para biathlon including being a two-time world champion in individual events. When he is not training, he enjoys playing video games with friends and cooking. His cooking ranges from smoking meats like brisket to making a variety of different rice bowls usually with an Asian ingredients.
