Speedskater Brittany Bowe Wins 1,000-Meter World Cup Title

Brittany Bowe wrapped up the abbreviated long track speedskating world cup season in perfect fashion Sunday, sweeping the 1,000-meter just like she did the 1,500 one day earlier.
The two-time Olympian skated to a time of 1:13.960 in Sunday’s finale, beating Russia’s Angelina Golikova by .09 of a second. No one else was within half a second of Bowe’s time. 
With only two world cup stops this season, both taking place in Heerenveen, Netherlands, Bowe won the 1,000- and 1,500-meter races both weekends, thus securing the season title in each.
The Ocala, Florida, native now has five season titles at the 1,000 distance, including each of the last three, as well as three at 1,500. She also swept the two titles in both the 2016 and ’19 seasons, and has won world titles at each distance as well.
Bowe, 32, also competed in three of four 500-meter races during this year’s world cup and finished 17th in the season standings.
She’ll now look to add more world titles as the shortened season wraps up Feb. 11-14, with that event also taking place at the iconic Thialf stadium in Heerenveen.
Three U.S. men also competed Sunday. Conor McDermott-Mostowy took 17th in the men’s 1,000-meter to finish the same position in the season standings.
Ethan Cepuran took sixth in the men’s 5,000-meter B division, while Ian Quinn was 19th.
