Baby No. 3 Arrives For Carly Patterson And Husband Mark Caldwell

The Patterson Caldwell family now has enough members for a full gymnastics team.
2004 Olympic all-around champion Carly Patterson and husband Mark Caldwell welcomed their third child, Pearson Philip Caldwell, on Feb. 15. Weighing in at 8 pounds, 7 ounces and 21 inches long, Pearson joins brother Graham, 3, and sister Emmaline, who just turned 2 on Feb. 12. 
“We’re so in love with you sweet Pearson and we can’t wait for you to meet your brother and sister,” Patterson Caldwell wrote in announcing the news on Instagram.
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Patterson Caldwell and her family now live in Texas, meaning Pearson’s birthday was beset by the severe winter weather across the Lone Star State, as Patterson Caldwell described, “an epic winter storm with ice, snow, and negative temps, blackout power outages across the state (including our hospital-which makes for a very nerve racking c-section), and all while still in a global pandemic! What an entrance!”
Patterson Caldwell, 33, retired from competitive gymnastics due to injury shortly after winning her historic gold medal at the Olympic Games Athens 2004. Patterson Caldwell became the second ever U.S. gymnast to win all-around gold at the Games and the first since Mary Lou Retton in 1984. She left behind a gold-medal legacy as a U.S. gymnast has taken gold in the all-around at every Games since.
