How did you get involved in the sport?
I got involved through Crossfit. I liked lifting more than running and decided to try to get better at weightlifting. After learning about junior nationals when I was 17, I decided to attempt to qualify and compete there, and I did so. I’ve been competing ever since.
What is your favorite lift in competition?
My favorite lift in competition thus far was the first time I clean and jerked 160kg at U25 nationals in 2018. While that’s now a routine number for me, at the time I had never attempted that weight and so it was a huge lift. The feeling of accomplishment after sticking the jerk is probably something I’ll never forget.
What is your greatest accomplishment/ achievement of your athletic career?
My greatest accomplishment so far is winning the 2019 junior nationals after two years in the sport and securing a spot on the Junior Pan Am team.
Who have been your biggest supporters in your athletic career?
My parents, coaches, friends and girlfriend are all incredibly supportive and I’m so grateful for them.
What is the best part about competing?
The best part about competing is setting big goals and then chasing them down. The feeling of accomplishment when you do that is like a drug that never fades.
